Promoting Peru in China - A Successful Media Event and Travel Seminar

Client: PROMPERU

Objective: To promote Peru as a preferred travel destination among Chinese tourists and strengthen relationships with key media journalists, KOLs, and travel agencies in Shanghai.

Challenges: The challenge was to create a memorable experience that would leave a lasting impression on both media representatives and travel agencies. Additionally, the event needed to showcase the rich culture and attractions of Peru.

Solution:

  • Media Event

We meticulously planned and executed a two-day event that began with a media luncheon at a carefully selected venue. Our team identified and invited 13 prominent media journalists and KOLs with a focus on the travel and tourism sector. To ensure the highest level of media attendance, we targeted well-known and respected figures in the industry.

For the luncheon, we arranged a Peruvian culinary experience that showcased the diverse and flavourful cuisine of Peru. The meal was designed not only to satisfy the palate but also to provide insight into the country’s gastronomic culture.

The event was attended by key figures, including the Economic and Commercial Counsellor from Beijing and the Business Manager of PROMPERU Shanghai Commercial Office. This presence added a layer of credibility and authority to the event.

Following the luncheon, we organized seamless transportation to transfer the media representatives to the BAP Union, a Peruvian navy ship, which was docked at the International Port of Shanghai. Onboard, the Casa Peru exhibit showcased the treasures of Peru, offering an immersive experience of the country’s culture, history, and natural beauty.

  • Travel Agency Training Seminar

The success of the media event was followed by a travel agency training seminar held on the BAP Union the next day. We invited 23 Shanghai-based travel agencies specializing in Peru and South American tourism. To enhance the training experience, we arranged a Peruvian coffee break on the ship, offering an enticing selection of traditional Peruvian snacks, superfoods, chocolates, and, of course, authentic Peruvian coffee. This gastronomic journey provided a rich taste of Peru’s diverse culinary offerings.

Results:

The media event garnered immediate attention and made significant waves across various media outlets, resulting in an astounding media value that surpassed $100,000, reaching an expansive audience of over 300,000 potential travellers. Furthermore, we are thrilled to share that an array of compelling Peru destination feature articles and captivating videos are currently awaiting publication, promising to further amplify the reach and impact of our successful campaign.

The travel agency training seminar was met with enthusiasm and garnered positive feedback. The participating agencies gained valuable knowledge about promoting Peru as a travel destination. They expressed eagerness for further training and the possibility of organizing FAM trips to Peru. This event solidified the relationship between the travel agencies and the Peruvian tourism authority.

Testimonial:

“Special thanks to Travel World Chin and its team for making the events work. Everything went fantastic, from the organization and logistics to our esteemed guests! The successful execution of these events has significantly contributed to our mission of promoting Peru in the Chinese market. We look forward to continued collaboration with your team.” Said Director of Asia and Oceania Market, PROMPERU.

Conclusion:

The two-day event in Shanghai successfully showcased Peru’s rich culture, cuisine, and attractions to both media representatives and travel agencies. It generated substantial media coverage, increasing awareness of Peru as a travel destination among Chinese tourists. Additionally, it fostered closer ties between PROMPERU and key stakeholders in the travel industry, setting the stage for future collaborations and promotional activities in China. This event serves as a compelling example of how strategic planning and immersive experiences can drive successful destination promotion in international markets.
